Detailed itinerary Rwanda Uganda safari tour

Day 1: Pickup at the airport and a transfer to the hotel

Depending on your time of arrival, our guide will pick you up from the airport and brief you about the 13 Days Rwanda Uganda safari. You will then be driven straight to your hotel where you will check in and spend the rest of the day at leisure as you await dinner and overnight rest.

Day 2: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park and a visit to Ziwa Rhino sanctuary

On day 2 of the tour, you will wake up, have an early breakfast and embark on a journey to Murchison falls national park. The journey takes about 4-5 hours but this is the perfect time to see the Ugandan countryside and people working in their farms. Upon arrival at the breeding and research Centre established to protect Uganda’s last rhino species, Ziwa Rhino sanctuary, you will be able to spot rhinos including other wildlife species such as primates, antelopes and birds. You shall then proceed on an approximate 1-hour journey to Murchison falls national park where you shall see the one of the most amazing waterfalls in Africa, the Murchison falls. The fall is located at a spot where river Nile forces its way through a narrow gorge before dropping down. You will be able to capture as many photos of yourself in order to spice up your tour experience. After enjoying your time at the park, you will be driven to the lodge for check in, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Morning Game drive and a Boat cruise along the river Nile.

On this day, you will wake up early and an have breakfast as you prepare for the action-packed day. You will start off your day by engaging in a morning game drive in the park where you will be able to spot the big five animals like buffaloes, lions, leopards and elephants and other animals like hyenas, giraffe, jackal, bushbucks, jackals, the Uganda Kob, primates among others. After the game drive animal viewing activity, you will return to the lodge for lunch and rest before heading for an afternoon boat cruise along river Nile. During the boat cruise, you’ll head to the bottom of the Murchison falls as you gain views of park animals drinking along the river banks including views of hippopotamus and crocodiles. You shall also spot various bird species such as Black-headed Gonolek, Saddle-billed Stork, Grey-crowned Crane, the rare shoe-bill stork, the African Skimmer, Long-toed Plover, the Fish Eagle, Goliath Heron, among many others. After the launch cruise, you’ll return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Transfer to Kibale National Park

You shall wake up, take a leisurely breakfast and check out of the lodge. Our guide will transfer you to on a pleasant journey all the way to Kibale National Park for another marvelous experience. During the 244-kilometer drive, you will enjoy views of forests, peasant farms lakes, rivers and other scenic natures along your way. Upon reaching kibale national park, you’ll check in to your lodge, have relaxation as you await a delicious dinner and a night rest.

Day 5: Chimpanzee tracking at Kibale national park and a transfer to Queen Elizabeth national park

You will wake up, have an early breakfast and head to the park headquarters for briefing about the chimpanzee trekking activity. You will then be accompanied by a trained ranger guide who shall lead you on the search for this great ape which you will encounter within the forest as they as they swing from one branch to another. After the chimp trek, you’ll return to the lodge, have lunch, check out and embark on another approximate 130-kilometer journey to Queen Elizabeth national park where you will have arrive at your lodge, have dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 6: Early morning game drive and boat cruise on Kazinga Channel

On day 6, you will wake up and have a morning breakfast before heading to the park for an early morning game drive. The morning game drive is designed to enable visitors catch views of nocturnal animals as the return back to their dens after a busy hunting night. You will spot animals like leopards, lions, buffaloes and hippos and others including both the migratory and resident bird species. After the game drive activity, you will return to your lodge, have a delectable lunch and procced for a leisurely boat cruise on Kazinga Channel, the 32-kilometer-long natural channel linking lake Edward to lake George. During the boat launch, you will encounter with numerous wildlife creatures like hippos, crocodiles, buffalos including bird species like cormorants, kingfisher, herons, hamerkops, starlings, martial eagle among others. You shall return to your lodge for relaxation, dinner and rest.

Day 7: Game drive at Ishasha sector and a Transfer to Bwindi impenetrable forest national park

After having an early breakfast on this day, you will check out of the lodge and be driven by our guide for one more game drive in Queen Elizabeth national park. The game drive will be executed from Ishasha sector that is well known in the world for the tree climbing lions. After viewing and spotting several tree climbing lions and other mammals of Ishasha, you will start another journey to Bwindi impenetrable forest national park where you will arrive your lodge, have dinner and an early rest as you prepare for gorilla tracking the following day.

Day 8: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi impenetrable national park and a visit to Batwa pygmy community

After morning breakfast, you will head in for briefing at the park headquarters about the gorilla trekking activity. You will be briefed on a couple of things such as rules and regulations of tracking mountain gorillas, how to behave around the gorillas, history of the park and others. After all is cleared, you will then be assigned a park ranger who will lead you to deep into the forest on the lookout for the amazing creatures. During this activity, you will not only spot the gorillas but also see other wildlife creatures such as primates like blue monkeys, colobus monkeys, red tailed monkeys, grey checked mangabeys, vervet monkeys inclusive of variety of bird species. After the engaging trek, you will return for lunch and proceed with a visit to the Batwa pygmy community for their cultural performances. You will then return to your lodge for dinner and an overnight rest

Day 9: Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi

You will wake up, have a leisurely breakfast and embark on an approximate 2-hour journey to Lake Bunyonyi.  Lake Bunyonyi is among the deepest lakes in Africa which makes it not suitable for those with zero swimming skills, what makes the lake one of a special kind is that it’s surrounded by green vegetation, forests and the 29 islands. Upon arrival at the lake, you will go on a boat cruise and bound from one island to another as you watch different bird species like grey crowned cranes, white tailed monad, slender-billed Baglafecht, weavers, African harrier hawk, egrets, cardinal woodpecker, grey crowned cranes, African king fisher, herons among others. After engaging in a number of activities within the lake, you will proceed to your lodge, check in, have a delicious dinner including an overnight stay.

Day 10: Complete activities in Lake Bunyonyi and a transfer to the Volcanoes national park

You will wake up, have breakfast and go for more experience within Lake Bunyonyi through adventures. You’ll then return to the lodge, have lunch and proceed on another journey to Volcanoes national park in Rwanda. During the journey, you will enjoy the scenic hill views along the road including views of the Virunga Volcanoes. Upon arrival at the park, you’ll check in to your lodge, have a delicious dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 11: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park including a visit to ibyiwachu village

On day 11, you will wake up, have a leisurely breakfast and proceed for an orientation by the Rwanda Development Board officials at the park headquarters and thereafter start your gorilla trekking activity. The Park rangers will guide you deeper into the forest along the rugged terrains on the search for the gorillas until you finally encounter with them. Tracking the gorillas will also reward you with views of some primates like the black and white Colobus monkeys, Olive baboons among others. You shall return to the lodge, have a relaxing lunch and in the evening pay a visit to ibyiwachu village for a cultural experience of the Rwandan culture where you will also understand the way of life of the Rwanda people. You shall return to your lodge for relaxation, dinner and rest.

Day 12: Golden monkey tracking in Volcanoes National Park and a visit to Lake Burera and Ruhondo

On this day, you will wake up, have breakfast and head in for the golden monkey trekking. Golden monkeys are portrayed with gold color on their backs and cheeks and are further more sub species to the blue monkeys. The golden monkeys are playful primates that live within the bamboo trees to avoid attack from predators like eagles. During this trek, you will not only spot the golden monkeys but also gain rewarding views of other primate species and bird species like Kungwe Apaliser, Shelley crimson wing and, Grauer’s Warbl among others. After the engaging trek, you will return to the lodge for lunch and later in the evening tour the twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo that will add up to your tour experience. You shall return to your lodge for a delicious dinner and overnight stay.

Day 13: Transfer to Kigali for a city tour and Departure

After having a leisurely breakfast, you will be transferred to Kigali for a city tour where you will visit the genocide war memorial centers and the main city market where you may decide to shop a few gifts also. Depending on your time of departure, our guide will safely drive you to the airport for departure. This will mark the end of your tour.
